My Little Corner on the Web
Personal Project – Princess Shoot
UPDATE: Re-edited some of the pictures. Updated the gallery accordingly.
Finally have the galleries up for everyone to see. After the initial post about the shoot on March 29th (here), I found out that I lost more than expected. Total amount of equipment lost or damaged is up to ~$220. Quite a costly shoot. While processing the pictures, I found another problem. The lens I was using for the majority of the shots was suffering from strong back focusing (or front I don’t remember). Had to throw out a good number of the pictures because of this. Fortunately, the group pictures were shot at small apertures. They were all slightly soft though. Needless to say, this shoot was full of problems from the very start. Nothing went according to plan and it seems the photo gods were out to get me that day. Oh well, definitely not my best work. Mediocre at best. I did learn a lot from this shoot though and got a burst of ideas afterward for other shoots.
Without further delay, here are the galleries:

Hey Ronnie,
What was your concept for this shoot? When I heard Princess in the Woods, I imagined something quite different. I was wondering what was motivating these shots.
Of the girls, I thought the girl in lilac was most dressed like a stereotypical princess, and posed like a stereotypical princess. That said, I didn’t really princess at all in the girl in red and the girl with red hair. Therefore the group shots didn’t feel right to me.
I do love that weepy looking tree the red head poses with in photos 9-11. Looks beautiful with her hair. I also love the photo where she is doing the splits half on ground, half on a tree.
I also liked most of the shots of the girl in lilac at the end. They feel very soft, in color, mood, and expression, and sometimes in focus. It worked well.
My fave shot, though is the behind the scenes shot where the girl is laying on top of the boys. Now that shot speaks royalty. I kind of thought you guys would be doing more fun shots like that, playing with stereotypical traits princesses were supposed to have.

Thanks for the feedback, Karen. As I mentioned in the posts, nothing went according to plan. By the time I had my lighting “working” it was already pretty late. Torrie (the one in the tree) was too busy and didn’t have time to find a proper dress. And Aoni was suppose to be a rock princess. I plan to re-shoot this during my next break. Hopefully, this time the photo gods will be on my side :p
Yeah me too. Lost/damaged so much. :’( Oh well, at least we had a good time. Well, excluding the pain of seeing over half my gear damaged or destroyed.

I think this shoot would be awesome with more girls! Maybe 5 princess. Then it would make more sense that each one is representing a different type of princess.

Well Ronnie got picky with the girls…I could have brought a few more.
It was a enjoyable yet long shoot.

I wanted only girls I’ve worked with before. That way I already have rapport and didn’t have to “adjust” to a new model. If I had to worry about a new model on top of everything else, it would have been less successful than it already ended up to be.
