Mini Post – 11/27/09

It has been an uneventful day today. A lot of waiting around for people. Did an analysis of most of my pics taken in the last four months or so and came up with some interesting stats. I’ve long known that 35mm was my favorite focal length and the stats prove it. Even when shooting with zooms I tend to naturally go to the 35mm range. Last night I had a discussion with Perry and John about the subject of which lens to get next.

Currently leaning toward the 24-105L, reason being it would make the perfect lightweight walk around lens for general day to day use and travel. However, I’ve been eying the 35L for quite awhile now. Looking at the stats again it seem that I’ve been shooting in low light a LOT in the past few months. ISO 1600 being most used, 400 coming in second, and 3200 being third. That stats show that primes are a better investment considering I shoot low light for the majority of the time. The stats doesn’t include the wedding and events that I covered this month. If the wedding and events were to be included it would have pushed 3200 ISO to second place.

I’m still leaning toward the 24-105L but that 35L is really tempting. To have f/1.4 available and be sharp would be greatly beneficial but in the events and weddings that I cover a flash is always available and allowed. Plus the zooms are the better choice for versatility reasons. Decisions, decisions….

UPDATE: Fixed a bunch of spelling mistakes. Original post was done from my phone which is a total bitch to type on.

Thanksgiving 2009

I feel kind of obligated to make a post today since pretty much everyone else I know that has a blog has made one. I don’t know what to really write so it’ll be a barely coherent ramble (not much different from my normal stuff :D ). All the posts that I’ve seen have been in the cookie cutter format “I’m so thankful for…” That’s so boring. I’ll try to make it more interesting.

There really isn’t a need to explain what Thanksgiving is about. Everyone knows it and repeating it is pointless. Writing a list of everything I’m thankful for is equally pointless. Everyone who knows me and are an important part of my life already knows that I’m thankful for them. I am rarely without a camera and every time I make a picture of something I am making a statement. I am freezing a moment in my life, preserving it. I capture the beauty and ugliness of the world through the camera. Every moment I capture is a moment I am thankful for. It goes without saying that the beauty is what I try to capture and treasure but we can’t be thankful for the beauty unless we also acknowledge the ugliness. That’s just the way life is.

I don’t have anything else to say really. Just felt like I should post something today.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Mini Post – 11/25/09

Came across a chinese newspaper with a picture from the South Park episode Ginger Kids:

Just had to share it, I don’t know what it’s talking about though…

Also been playing with the camera in my MyTouch 3G. It’s not too bad (for a cellphone that is). Chase Jarvis has inspired me to use that camera to take more pictures and train my photographic eye. Expect to see more shitty pics (aside my normal crap :p) taken with the MyTouch.

The event today wasn’t as bad as I had thought at first. Lighting as usual was HORRID. I was shooting at ISO 3200 and f/2.8 and f/4 the whole time. I’m afraid to look at my pics…

Officially, I now have about 4,500 pics to process now. About 3,000 from the wedding, ~1,000 from the two events this weekend, and ~500 from the three photo shoots. Oi…
