First Wedding as Primary

October 25, 2009 was an important milestone for me. Shot my first wedding as a primary. I was exhausted and had injured my left arm from an event the day before. I could barely lift the 1Ds2 with my left hand. Despite all that, I loved every second of it. Ron and John were my assistants that day and I must thank them again for the help. I wouldn’t have done as well as I did without them. Overall, the wedding went quite well. Got some good frames out of it.
The wedding was relatively small with about 60 guest and took place at an aunt’s backyard. While driving to the location, I was nervous, short of breathe. Heart started pounding when we turned onto the street. Got out of the car and grabbed our gear from the trunk of the car, my hands were shaking. John and Ron tried to re-assure me. Walked toward the front door and my heart rate steadied, hands stopped shaking, and my mind went from a thousand miles an hour to pure calm. I felt completely natural and in complete control.
So many things happened during the wedding that if I was to write everything that happened and how I responded it would be a 6 page single spaced essay. I’ll just summarize: I was completely calm throughout the whole wedding except for a split second during the ceremony and I ran out of card space on ALL my cards. The wedding went pretty good although I think I could of done better. I succeeded at producing and maintaining a “I’m in control and I’m the boss” presence. Made a very good impression. And I can’t wait to shoot another wedding.
I might write more later on but I have too much to do right now. And I really don’t think anyone cares.

Walking to class and came across this. Luckily I had my camera shouldered, picked it up, raised it, aimed, and pushed the shutter button. All happened in about a second. Taken with 5D2 and 50mm f/1.4.

Scheduled Downtime – 10/21/09
